Istanbul, April 20 (SANA) Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Yamahi called on the Non-Aligned Movement to take a firm and clear stance against what he described as a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners.
Al-Yamahi made the remarks on Sunday during the fifth conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement in Istanbul, according to the Arab Parliament’s official website.
He urged the network to adopt a resolution rejecting the measure and to include it in the conference’s final documents, stressing the need to mobilize international efforts to prevent its implementation.
Al-Yamahi described the network as the “conscience of free nations,” calling for a unified position against what he termed “racist and abhorrent legislation.”
He added: “We cannot imagine that such an international parliamentary gathering, which has long supported just causes, would fail to take a clear stance on legislation that legitimizes the execution of thousands of innocent prisoners in full view of the world.”
Separately, Al-Yamahi addressed the conference’s main theme on climate-adaptive urban development, stressing the need to strengthen legislative frameworks that integrate climate considerations into urban planning.
The Israeli Knesset approved on March 30 a law allowing the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, a move that has drawn Arab and international condemnation.
