Washington, April 12 (SANA) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it will impose a blockade on maritime traffic entering or leaving Iranian ports starting Monday morning.
In a post published on the platform X, CENTCOM said the blockade will apply to ships of all countries entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including ports located along the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
The command added that U.S. forces will not interfere with freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz when traveling to or from ports outside Iran.
CENTCOM also said commercial shipping crews would receive additional guidance through official notices before the blockade takes effect, urging mariners to follow navigational alerts and coordinate with U.S. naval forces when operating in the Gulf of Oman and approaches to the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier Sunday, U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced the failure of talks with Iran that had taken place in Islamabad, confirming that the U.S. delegation had left Pakistan without reaching an agreement.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar meanwhile called on both the United States and Iran to remain committed to ceasefire efforts following the collapse of the negotiations aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
