Occupied Jerusalem, April 12 (SANA) The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip has issued a grave warning regarding the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Strip, due to the Israeli occupation’s strategy of “hunger engineering,” imposing severe restrictions on the inflow of vital food supplies, particularly flour, amid worrying international silence.
In a statement released on Sunday, the office said that the Gaza Strip is suffering from systematic starvation, reflected in the reduced entry of basic materials, especially flour and bread, which poses a direct threat to the food security of more than 2.4 million people.
Recent statistics show that incoming flour supplies have plummeted to just 38% of pre-war levels. Despite an agreement intended to facilitate the passage of 600 trucks of aid daily, actual deliveries have fallen drastically short.
The office underscored the urgency of the crisis, citing the World Central Kitchen’s complete withdrawal of flour support, impacting the World Food Programme’s ability to supply the population.
The programme has had to reduce its flour distributions from 300 tons to just 200 tons each day, underlining the reality that without immediate intervention, the bread supply system could collapse entirely.
The statement from the Gaza office attributed the escalating food crisis directly to Israeli policies, urging the international community to intensify efforts to open border crossings and allow unrestricted access for humanitarian aid. According to previous reports, the ceasefire agreement established last October included provisions mandating the entry of 600 trucks of aid daily, with 50 specifically allocated for fuel, a key component in addressing the region’s broader humanitarian needs.
As hunger looms over Gaza, humanitarian organizations and local authorities are calling for urgent action to avert a full-scale catastrophe and ensure the right to food for all residents in the besieged territory.
