Santiago, April 10 (SANA) Palestinian Ambassador to Chile Vera Baboun signed a cooperation agreement with Metropolitan Technological University (UTEM) President Marisol Durán Santis and the Bethlehem 2000 Foundation of the Palestinian community in Chile to implement a humanitarian program supporting children in Gaza who lost limbs due to Israeli attacks.
According to WAFA news agency, Baboun said the initiative represents a humanitarian model of solidarity, noting it reflects an ethical commitment translated into practical steps to assist affected children. She added that harnessing science and innovation to provide advanced prosthetics can help restore part of their independence and improve their future prospects.
The agreement includes urgent measures under which the university’s Assisted Design Laboratory (LABDA) will develop upper-limb prosthetics using 3D printing technology, aimed at improving quality of life and restoring independence. The initiative also includes organizing a traveling poster exhibition to highlight the situation of the Palestinian people and their resilience.
According to Palestinian Health Ministry data from last year, around 6,000 Palestinians lost limbs due to the Israeli war on Gaza since October 2023 and require long-term rehabilitation programs. The World Health Organization estimated in September that up to 17,500 people, including adults and children, suffered severe limb injuries requiring rehabilitation and assistance.
