Saudi Arabia, Kuwait intercept missiles and drones as regional tensions rise

Kuwait City/Riyadh, April 3 (SANA) Saudi Arabia and Kuwait said on Friday their air defense systems intercepted multiple missile and drone attacks, as the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran escalates.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense said its air defense systems were actively engaged against incoming threats. In a statement posted on X, the Kuwaiti Armed Forces General Command said, “Kuwaiti air defenses are currently intercepting hostile missile and drone attacks.”

A day earlier, Kuwaiti air defense units reported detecting and responding to missile and drone activity over the country’s airspace within a 24-hour period, adding that no casualties or material damage were recorded.

In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Defense said air defense systems intercepted and destroyed seven drones in recent hours.

State news agency SPA cited spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Malki as saying the drones were shot down over the kingdom’s Eastern Province.

The incidents come as several Gulf states report a surge in Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, energy facilities and residential areas. The escalation marks the fourth week of heightened regional tensions tied to the broader U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict.
