Occupied Jerusalem, April 2 (SANA) Eight Arab and Muslim countries have condemned Israel’s approval of a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners, describing it as a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law and human rights.
The countries include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Indonesia.
In their joint statement, the countries’ foreign ministers said the measure constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law and warned it could further escalate tensions in the region. They also called on the international community to intervene and halt the legislation, stressing the need to protect the rights of Palestinian prisoners in accordance with international conventions.
The proposed law seeks to impose the death penalty on certain Palestinian prisoners, drawing widespread criticism from governments and human rights organizations over concerns about fair trial standards and the risk of politicized application.
On March 30, the Israeli Knesset passed the law, a move that has drawn Arab and international condemnation.
