Occupied Jerusalem, March 21 (SANA) The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said on Saturday that 39 Palestinian mothers are being held in Israeli prisons out of a total of 79 female detainees, amid what it described as an ongoing campaign targeting prisoners, according to the Palestinian WAFA news agency.
In a statement marking Mother’s Day, the society said imprisoned mothers face heightened targeting. It added that, alongside violations affecting all detainees, including torture, starvation, denial of medical care and solitary confinement, mothers are also deprived of contact with their children, deepening their suffering.
The society said the arrest of Palestinian mothers forms part of a broader campaign against Palestinian existence, calling for international pressure to secure the immediate release of female prisoners, end violations against them, and halt the escalating arrest campaigns targeting women.
It added that these campaigns have intensified significantly since the start of the war in October 2023.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli authorities have increased restrictions on prisoners, including denying family visits and preventing the International Committee of the Red Cross from accessing detainees.
