Cairo, Mar.15 (SANA) The Council of Arab Information Ministers said that it is closely monitoring the ongoing developments in the region, particularly the military attacks and aggressions carried out by Iran against several brotherly Arab countries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Council said it is also assessing the coverage of these developments by Arab media outlets in all their forms and platforms, as well as the international media’s handling of regional events.
The Council hailed Arab media institutions, both public and private, along with various media platforms, for covering the developments to Arab audiences with professionalism, responsibility and commitment to Arab national principles.
According to the statement, Arab media coverage has reflected the solidarity of Arab societies and states that have been subjected to these attacks, while also emphasizing the official and popular Arab consensus in supporting the peoples of those countries and affirming their legitimate right to defend themselves and condemn the aggression they face.
The ministers called on all Arab media outlets — traditional and digital, audio, print and visual — to carry out their role in informing Arab and international public opinion about the realities of the ongoing developments.
They stressed that the Iranian attacks against certain Arab states constitute an unjustified assault against peaceful countries that have not initiated hostilities against any party and have not used their military forces to launch attacks against Iran or any side involved in the conflict.
The Council further noted the importance of informing the public that many of the Iranian attacks targeted civilian facilities, vital infrastructure and economic assets, causing damage to the security of citizens, residents and visitors in those countries.
The statement also warned against confusing the stance toward the military operations and the ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States with the Iranian attacks directed at Arab countries.
It stated that no position regarding the broader conflict can justify the targeting of Arab states that have not participated in military operations against Iran and have not violated its territory or interests.
The Council urged social media users across the Arab world not to be misled by rumours and misleading information circulated on digital platforms, which aim to sow discord among Arab peoples.
It reiterated that the current circumstances require every Arab citizen to express full solidarity with the peoples subjected to aggression and to maintain the unity of the Arab stance in confronting any violation of an Arab state’s sovereignty.
The Council also called on Arab media institutions, both public and private, to work jointly in conveying accurate information to Arab audiences, relying on official statements and verified data issued by the Arab countries concerned, in order to counter false news and misleading narratives.
Finally, the Council called for enhanced Arab cooperation to inform international public opinion about the reality of Iranian attacks on Arab states and the violation of their sovereignty, as well as engaging with major international media organisations to provide accurate information and correct misinformation circulating about the developments.
