Abu Dhabi, March 12 (SANA) The United Arab Emirates welcomed a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on Gulf states and Jordan, describing the move as a clear international message rejecting violations of state sovereignty and the targeting of civilians.
In a statement, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mohamed Abushahab, said the resolution reflects strong global opposition to Iranian violations of international law and threats to regional and global security.
Abushahab said the UAE will continue working within the United Nations framework to confront such violations and prevent them from recurring. He also praised Bahrain’s role in advancing the resolution’s adoption.
He reaffirmed the UAE’s right to defend itself “individually or collectively” and to take necessary measures to protect its territory, population and critical infrastructure in accordance with international law.
The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2817 on Wednesday. The resolution, submitted by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Jordan, condemns Iran’s attacks on Gulf states and Jordan and describes them as a threat to international peace and security.
