U.S. pledges $10 billion to Gaza Board of Peace
U.S. President Donald Trump during his opening speech at the Board’s first meeting in Washington

New York, Feb. 20 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that the United States will allocate $10 billion to the Gaza Board of Peace.

The announcement came during Trump’s opening speech at the Board’s first meeting in Washington, D.C., which included leaders and representatives from 47 countries, according to the Associated Press.

Trump revealed that international pledges, mostly from Gulf countries, totaled more than $7 billion to rebuild Gaza. He noted that total reconstruction needs are estimated at about $70 billion.

Additionally, five countries participating in the meeting announced their approval to deploy forces in Gaza Strip as part of an international stabilization force to help implement the ceasefire agreement in the Strip.

The Board of Peace was formed after the ceasefire in Gaza went into effect on October 10, followed by an international peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh attended by more than 31 countries and international organizations.

The first phase of the agreement included the release of 20 Israeli detainees and 28 bodies, in exchange for Israel releasing 250 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment and 1,718 other detainees from the Strip.
