Geneva, Feb. 2 (SANA) Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) said on Sunday that a decision by the Israeli occupation authorities to halt its activities in the Gaza Strip by Feb. 28 would disrupt the delivery of humanitarian aid and further strain an already collapsed health system.
In a statement, MSF said the move would deprive hundreds of thousands of Palestinians of basic medical services at a time of acute need.
The Israeli occupation authorities have informed Doctors Without Borders that it must cease its humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip and leave the area by Feb. 28.
“This decision forces humanitarian organizations into an impossible choice between endangering their staff or halting emergency medical assistance to people who desperately need it,” the organization said, warning that stopping its work would worsen the humanitarian situation.
MSF said it has refrained from disclosing the names of its Palestinian staff because it has not received concrete guarantees from the Israeli authorities regarding the safety of its teams, the protection of their personal data, or the independence of its medical operations.
According to the organization, about 1,700 healthcare workers have been killed in Gaza since the start of the war on Oct. 7, 2023, including 15 MSF staff members.
