Occupied Jerusalem, Jan. 26 (SANA) UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini condemned Israeli forces for setting fire to the agency’s headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Occupied Jerusalem. He called the act “an unprecedented attack on the United Nations and a flagrant violation of international law.”
In a statement on the agency’s website, Lazzarini said that Israeli forces broke into the UNRWA headquarters, demolished parts of it, and then set it on fire. “This unprecedented destruction comes as part of ongoing attempts to undermine the status of Palestinian refugees,” he said, stressing that the refugee issue must be resolved through a genuine political solution, not through criminal acts.
Last Tuesday, Israeli forces stormed the compound, demolished facilities, and removed the UN flag. Several Arab and Western countries have strongly condemned the attack.
