UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed Hamas’ announcement its willingness to release hostages and engage with the Gaza peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump.
He called on all sides to seize this opportunity to end the conflict, urging a permanent and immediate ceasefire, unconditional release of all hostages and full access for humanitarian aid
Guterres reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting efforts that reduce suffering and promote peace.
Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, described Trump’s initiative as a vital opening for large-scale humanitarian relief.
Mr. Guterres thanked Qatar and Egypt for “their invaluable mediation work” alongside the US.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, through its spokesman Majed al-Ansari, welcomed Hamas’ acceptance of the plan and voiced support for Trump’s ceasefire appeal.
Hamas announced its agreement to release all Israeli captives—both living and deceased—based on the exchange framework outlined in President Trump’s plan. The group also expressed its readiness to immediately enter negotiations through mediators to discuss all the details.
