Edinburgh, SANA – Scottish First Minister John Swinney affirmed that Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip and that everyone must assume their legal and moral responsibilities to stop it. He stated that his country will fulfill its duty and take a series of diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian measures.
This came during Swinney’s speech before the Scottish Parliament, in which he called on Britain to fulfill its pledge to unconditionally recognize the State of Palestine before the United Nations General Assembly during its meeting this month. He emphasized that “recognition is a right of the Palestinians, not a gift from international powers, and must be accompanied by the imposition of sanctions on the Israeli government” and the end of any military cooperation as long as the war of extermination in Gaza continues.
Swinney also called on Britain to support the rule of international law and join South Africa in its case before the International Court of Justice to prosecute Israel for committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.
