New York, June. 9 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Kabawat and Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, met with Professor Annette von Kalckreuth, Director-General for Disability Affairs at Germany’s Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation in the field of protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring their full inclusion in society.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 19th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York on Tuesday, the two sides explored opportunities for joint cooperation and agreed to strengthen coordination and collaboration during the coming period.
They also agreed to expand the exchange of expertise and develop partnerships aimed at empowering persons with disabilities, safeguarding their rights and ensuring their full and effective participation in society.
The 19th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities opened today at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The conference runs through June 11 under the theme: “The Convention at 20: Celebrating Achievements, Consolidating Progress, and Shaping the Future of Implementation in a Changing World.”
Syria signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2007. The international treaty commits States Parties to promoting, protecting and ensuring the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities and guaranteeing equality before the law.
