Deir Ezzor, May 29 (SANA) The Syrian Ministry of Health has sent an urgent medical shipment to the Deir Ezzor Health Directorate, containing first aid supplies and essential medicines, as part of an emergency response to bolster the readiness of hospitals and health centers in the face of consequences from the rising water level of the Euphrates River.
The shipment aims to support the readiness of health facilities and rapid response teams to deal with any emergencies that may arise from the current situation, ensuring the continuity of medical services for citizens, providing necessary health care in affected areas, and preventing interruptions in the supply of essential medicines and medical materials.
Logistics officer at the ministry’s Supply Directorate, Amer al-Melhim, said, via the ministry’s Telegram channel on Friday, that the ministry responded quickly to the needs of the health sector in Deir Ezzor by sending a shipment containing serums, medicines, and consumable medical materials to support hospitals and health centers in the governorate.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring the continuous availability of medicines and medical supplies and maintaining the readiness of health institutions amid the current conditions caused by the rising water level of the Euphrates.
Hazim al-Ahmad, secretary general of the warehouses at Deir Ezzor Health Directorate, said that the rising water level of the Euphrates and the cutting of some bridges caused difficulties in supply operations, forcing concerned authorities to use longer alternative routes to reach affected areas.
He confirmed that, despite logistical challenges, there have been no interruptions in medical supplies, noting that local hospitals have been equipped with kidney dialysis machines in addition to various supplies and medicines to support health services.
The Ministry of Health had announced on Thursday the formation of a joint operations room with the Health Directorates of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor, in full coordination with Deir Ezzor Governorate and its executive offices, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, Internal Security Forces, and the Arab Red Crescent Society, to monitor the situation on the ground, assess needs, and ensure rapid response to emergencies.
The operations room has raised the readiness of hospitals and ambulance teams, organized the transfer of cases and medical personnel between both banks of the Euphrates, strengthened epidemiological surveillance, secured necessary medical supplies, and supported the region with medical staff and surgical services, in coordination with health partners.
