Damascus, April 9 (SANA) Health Minister, Musab al-Ali, discussed Thursday with a delegation from the Italian NGO “Emergency” ways to enhance health cooperation as part of the final preparations for launching a project to renovate and reactivate al-Rastan Hospital, funded by the European Union.
During a meeting in Damascus, al-Ali said that providing health services to citizens is a priority of any joint cooperation, noting the importance of expediting the completion of the necessary technical and administrative procedures to begin the renovation work at al-Rastan Hospital.
He added that the project has moved from the initial agreement and study phase to the stage of securing funding and completing the implementation procedures, pointing out that the renovation work will take several months before the hospital can become fully operational.
For her part, President of the Italian NGO Emergency, Rossella Miccio, said that the organization’s presence in Syria is to finalize the technical details with the Ministry of Health to support the health system, particularly in Homs province.
She noted that the goal of rehabilitating al-Rastan hospital is to resume its operations, initially providing trauma and emergency surgical services, and then gradually expanding to include other services such as obstetrics and cardiology.
“Emergency” is a non-governmental organization founded in 1994 that provides free, high-quality medical and surgical care to victims of wars and poverty. It has worked in 19 countries and provided services to more than 13 million people worldwide.
