Boston, March 17 (SANA) A federal judge in Massachusetts on Monday blocked changes to the U.S. childhood vaccine schedule introduced by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., following a lawsuit by medical groups.
The American Academy of Pediatrics and others argued the overhaul violated federal law by altering vaccine recommendations and a key advisory panel, NBC News reported.
The changes, announced in January, reduced the number of recommended diseases for childhood vaccination from 18 to 11, dropping shots for hepatitis A and B, RSV, dengue and some forms of meningitis.
The ruling also suspended newly appointed members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisory committee and halted recent votes, including one affecting hepatitis B shots for newborns.
More than 200 organizations said they would ignore the changes and continue following existing immunization guidelines.
