Aleppo, Feb.7 (SANA) Azaz National Hospital in the Aleppo countryside is considered one of the largest medical facilities in northern Syria, receiving more than 6,000 patients every month and performing between 300 and 400 surgical operations across various medical specialties.
In a statement to SANA’s correspondent, Head of Physicians at the hospital, Dr. Hassan Qouj, said that the hospital began providing medical services in 2019 and was subjected to heavy shelling by the defunct regime during the years of the revolution. Despite this, it continued operating and today includes a wide range of medical specialities, with around 75 experienced and qualified doctors working at the facility.
Dr. Qouj explained that the hospital includes an advanced dialysis unit equipped with 13 modern dialysis machines and three isolation machines, in addition to intensive care units for children and adults, and a neonatal incubator unit containing 11 incubators. The hospital also includes internal medicine and radiology departments, which provide CT scans and conventional X-ray imaging.
For his part, emergency department physician Dr. Omar Al-Sinn said that the department receives large numbers of patients daily, who undergo necessary cardiac, internal, chest, and surgical examinations, in addition to laboratory and medical tests, before being referred to specialized doctors according to their conditions.
Nurse Maya Al-Mohammad explained that the emergency department receives various cases, particularly obstetric and gynaecological emergencies, where services include electrocardiograms, urinary catheterisation, and the provision of necessary emergency and medical treatments.
In the dialysis department, technician Abdul Qader Haroush said that dialysis services are provided through 15 machines, with around 65 patients received weekly for regular dialysis sessions.
Meanwhile, neonatal unit technician nurse Hussein Saqqar said that the unit receives multiple cases of newborns and includes 11 incubators, stressing the need to equip the department with modern ventilators and increase medical and nursing staff to improve the quality of services provided.
Laboratory technician Abdul Karim Khlouf spoke about the services offered by the laboratory department, which include medical and hormonal tests, blood sampling, and analysis, ensuring accurate diagnosis and rapid treatment.
Azaz National Hospital provides medical services to hundreds of thousands of residents in the city of Azaz, its countryside, and neighboring areas, amid a growing need for healthcare services.
