A large-scale campaign to remove mines and unexploded ordnance in Palmyra

Homs, SANA – The Palmyra region administration, in cooperation with relevant authorities, launched a large-scale campaign on Wednesday to survey the city and remove mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) from it, to restore security and stability and ensure the safety of civilians in the region.

Palmyra District Director Saher Saghir told a SANA reporter that the campaign is being implemented in phases, starting inside the city. After the survey and removal process is completed, the campaign will move to the countryside to ensure the region is completely free of mines and unexploded ordnance that threaten the lives of residents.

Saghir added that the campaign aims to protect civilians and ensure their safety, especially children, who are most vulnerable to the spread of unexploded ordnance. These measures also facilitate the return of displaced persons to their houses and enable them to resume their normal daily lives.
