Damascus, Feb. 9 (SANA) Syria’s ministers of higher education and education said Sunday that Damascus continues to position itself as a regional center for culture and learning, as the capital hosts an international book fair with broad local and foreign participation.
During a visit to the Damascus International Book Fair, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan al-Halabi and Minister of Education Mohammed Abdul Rahman Turko pointed to the scale of the event as a sign of renewed cultural engagement, with hundreds of publishing houses taking part from Syria, the Arab world and abroad.
Al-Halabi said more than 500 publishing houses are participating in the fair, including around 40 pavilions affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education. He described the event as a platform linking universities and research institutions with broader cultural production.
Turko said the ministry used the exhibition to present its latest educational publications, including interactive learning materials, stressing that books remain central to education despite rapid digital transformation.
The exhibition, which also drew Arab and international participation, runs through Feb. 16 and includes publishers from more than 35
