Damascus, Aug. 4 (SANA) Syrian Airlines is expanding its international route network with new and resumed direct services to Moscow, Amsterdam and Madinah in Saudi Arabia, as Syria’s aviation sector continues to recover after years of disruption.

The national carrier said it will begin operating scheduled direct flights between Damascus and Moscow on Aug. 16, strengthening air connectivity between Syria and Russia and expanding travel options from Damascus International Airport.

The Moscow route follows the airline’s return to the European market with direct flights between Damascus and Amsterdam, which began on July 2. The service marks Syrian Airlines‘ first destination in Europe after years of suspended operations.

Anwar Aqqad, chief executive of the Syrian Aviation Holding Company, described the Amsterdam route as a milestone in restoring the carrier’s presence in Europe. He said the launch followed year-long technical, legal and diplomatic efforts and forms part of a broader strategy to expand the airline’s international network and strengthen air links with overseas destinations.

The airline has also announced the resumption of direct flights between Damascus and Madinah, Saudi Arabia, starting Aug. 11, with weekly service every Tuesday. Tickets are available through the airline’s website and mobile application, with online payment options.

The expansion comes as Syria seeks to rebuild its civil aviation sector and restore international connectivity. Syrian aviation authorities said 20,315 aircraft transited the country’s airspace in July 2026, reflecting increased use of Syria’s air corridor.
