Syria and the UAE discuss agricultural investment opportunities

Syria and the UAE discuss agricultural investment opportunities
Syria’s Minister of Agriculture, Bassel al-Sweden, with Hamad Rashid bin Alwan Al-Habsi, the UAE’s Ambassador to Syria

Damascus, June 9 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Agriculture Bassel al-Suwaidan and UAE Ambassador Hamad Rashid bin Alwan Al-Habsi discussed on Tuesday prospects for expanding cooperation and investment in the agricultural sector.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Agriculture in Damascus, focused on opportunities to enhance agricultural production and support food security efforts.

According to the ministry Al-Suwaidan highlighted Syria’s investment potential in agriculture, citing available arable land, diverse climate conditions, and incentives under the new investment law. He also referred to recent visits by Emirati investors to Syria to explore available opportunities.

The minister stressed the importance of cooperation in developing the equestrian sector, including Arabian horse breeding, genetic preservation, and participation in racing events.

He added that the ministry is working on issuing new passports for purebred Arabian horses.He also noted plans to expand cooperation in date palm cultivation and increase local production of dates.

For his part, the UAE ambassador reaffirmed his country’s interest in strengthening ties with Syria and investing in agriculture as a key productive sector. He emphasized continued engagement between investors from both countries and the importance of mutual visits to explore opportunities.

Al-Habsi also expressed support for initiatives to organize a date palm exhibition in Syria, backed by the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, aimed at boosting production and development in the sector.

He further highlighted cooperation in equestrian activities, horse care, and racing.

Syria and the UAE have recently expanded engagement in agriculture-focused initiatives aimed at strengthening food security and addressing climate-related challenges. Both sides are seeking to deepen their economic engagement and technical exchange in this sector.
