Canberra, May 30 (SANA) Australia has extended its emergency fuel measures, permitting the release of additional volumes of gasoline and diesel from domestic reserves to ensure stable supplies and reinforce national energy security.
The government said the decision includes a 20% reduction in mandatory minimum fuel stock levels held by companies, enabling up to 762 million liters of fuel to enter the market until September.
Energy Minister Chris Bowen said the measure, first introduced in March, aims to reduce the risk of fuel shortages, particularly in regional and remote areas, and that maintaining flexibility has become necessary.
According to official figures, Australia currently holds fuel reserves covering 48 days of petrol, 36 days of diesel, and 30 days of jet fuel, among the highest levels recorded in recent months.
The extension comes as global energy markets continue to face disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict, prompting governments to strengthen supply resilience and energy security frameworks.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong previously said that Canberra is in talks with the United States and international partners regarding maritime security initiatives in the Strait of Hormuz.
