Beirut, 16 May (SANA) Lebanon’s Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny announced the launch of a tender to modernize and design a railway line linking the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli with the al-Abboudieh area on the Lebanese-Syrian border as part of broader regional connectivity projects.
Speaking from Tripoli Port on Friday, Rasamny said the proposed railway would connect the northern port city with Syria through the al-Abboudieh border area.
The Lebanese Minister said Lebanon is participating in regional discussions involving railway links connecting Syria, Türkiye, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, adding that Beirut aims to become part of broader reconstruction and economic integration initiatives.
Rasamny said the project would strengthen Tripoli Port’s position as a regional logistics hub and support economic activity in Lebanon.
Technical studies are expected to be completed within six months, he added, before any implementation phase proceeds based on economic viability and investment assessments.
Rasamny also stressed the importance of stability and security in attracting infrastructure investment and reiterated Lebanon’s intention to expand cooperation between the public and private sectors.
