Damascus, Apr.19 (SANA) Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulkader Husarieh, held talks with Katarzyna Zajdel-Kurowska the Director of the World Bank Group Treasury’s Partnerships and Advisory Department and the accompanying delegation, ways to enhance the capabilities of the banking sector and promote joint cooperation.

Husarieh stated in a statement on Sunday that both sides agreed to provide the Central Bank of Syria with specialized technical assistance the Reserve and Gold Management Department in a way that helps the CBS to modernize institutional structures and improve its efficiency in managing assets, reserves, and gold.

Husarieh further noted that discussions also addressed positive developments related to Syria’s unity and their impact on reviving foreign currency and gold reserves. This, he said, is expected to contribute positively to raising liquidity levels and reserves.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh and Husriya also held talks with senior officials from the Monetary and Capital Markets Department at the International Monetary Fund programs for technical support and capacity building to modernize Syria’s financial, banking, and capital markets sectors.
