Damascus, April 13 (SANA) – President of the Syrian Exporters Board Abdul Qader Tahan said talks held with the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) during the Syrian economic delegation’s visit to Istanbul last week resulted in strategic understandings aimed at moving from coordination to practical implementation of economic integration between the two countries.
In a statement to SANA’s correspondent, Tahan said the discussions explored turning Türkiye into a transit platform for Syrian exports to regional and international markets through a model of export integration that would strengthen the presence of Syrian products abroad.
Tahan noted that both sides agreed to designate official contact points and hold a technical meeting within the coming weeks, alongside completing negotiations on an agreement related to standards and quality, which is expected to be signed soon to accelerate trade exchange.
The talks also addressed the preparation of a list of joint industrial projects, facilitating the movement of businessmen between the two countries and attracting Turkish industrial investments to Syria.
According to Tahan, the two sides also discussed mutual recognition of conformity certificates and harmonization of technical standards to reduce technical barriers to trade.
The discussions further emphasized encouraging joint industrial ventures, with a focus on transferring Turkish technology and expertise to the Syrian market in support of economic development and local production.
Priority sectors identified for cooperation include food and agricultural industries, the textile sector and manufacturing industries, which are expected to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of Syria’s industrial sector.
Last week, a Syrian economic delegation, headed by Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar, participated in the first meeting of the Syrian–Turkish Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) held in Istanbul.
