Istanbul, Feb. 15 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Transport Yarub Badr met Russia’s State secretary – Deputy Minister of Transport Dmitry Zverev on Sunday in Istanbul, Türkiye, on the sidelines of the second Conference of Transport and Communications Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The talks focused on studies related to the needs of the Syrian Railways, including rolling stock, operational materials and maintenance mechanisms, according to the Transport Ministry.
The two sides also discussed a draft memorandum of understanding between the Syrian and Russian transport ministries. The Russian delegation proposed studying the possibility of signing the memorandum during an upcoming conference scheduled to be held in Russia.
During the meeting, Badr received an official invitation to participate in the first Transport and Logistics Conference, set to take place in St. Petersburg from April 1 to 3, 2026.
On Saturday, Badr also held talks with his Saudi and Turkish counterparts in Istanbul, focusing on regional rail and land transport cooperation on the margins of the OIC conference.
The second OIC ministerial conference, held under the theme “Strengthening Transport Connectivity to Deepen Fraternity among OIC Member States,” brought together ministers and heads of delegation from OIC member states, as well as representatives of regional and international organizations.
