Damascus, Jan. 29 (SANA) Syria’s energy officials on Wednesday discussed prospects for cooperation in electricity generation and technical support for Syria’s energy sector with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
According to the Ministry of Energy, Assistant Minister of Energy for Electricity Affairs Omar Shaqrouq and Director General of the General Electricity Generation Establishment, Mohammad Fadila, reviewed ways to enhance technical cooperation with the JICA delegation and support power stations, especially those built by Japanese companies.
Discussions included providing Japanese spare parts to improve efficiency and ensure continuity of operations.
Both sides also agreed to train specialized engineering personnel, strengthen national capacities, and support the development of the electricity system.
The meeting is part of the Ministry of Energy’s ongoing plan to rehabilitate power generation stations and raise operational efficiency. It also aims to address challenges resulting from infrastructure damage and equipment shortages through technical cooperation with friendly countries and organizations and the development of national expertise.
JICA is Japan’s official government agency responsible for implementing Official Development Assistance (ODA) to developing countries, supporting economic and social development and promoting international cooperation.
