Amman-SANA

A tripartite Syrian-Jordanian-Turkish meeting was held Thursday in the Jordanian capital, Amman, to discuss ways to enhance regional cooperation in the transportation sector, activate transit traffic, and enhance rail connectivity, thus contributing to supporting economic integration and consolidating stability in the region.

During the meeting, the Syrian Deputy Minister of Transport for Land Transport Affairs, Muhammad Omar Rahal, stressed the importance of facilitating and unifying procedures at land and sea ports, and developing the transport network between the three countries.

Rahal clarified the importance of the strategic geographical location of Syria, Jordan, and Turkey, which makes it a natural bridge linking East to West, and North to South.

This strategic location would provide great opportunities to achieve economic and trade integration, attract investments, and expand intra-trade, the Minister said, calling for activating land and rail connectivity projects, especially the Hijaz Railway, overcoming obstacles to transit movement, and working to develop infrastructure.

Rahhal explained that the partnership between the three countries is a strategic necessity and reviewed the most important projects that Syria seeks to develop in cooperation with them, most notably:

Reactivating border crossings, such as the Nassib-Jaber crossing and the Bab al-Hawa crossing.

Developing railway lines, particularly the Gaziantep-Aleppo line and the historic Hejaz railway.

The Minister affirmed Syria’s commitment to joint action to activate regional transport projects and revive the region’s role as a pivotal trade corridor regionally and globally.
