Damascus, July 9 (SANA) The Women’s Creativity Exhibition opened Wednesday in Damascus, showcasing handmade products and small business initiatives aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment while preserving Syria’s traditional crafts.
Organized by the Damascus and Damascus Countryside Workers’ Union in cooperation with the Working Women Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions, the two-day exhibition brings together women entrepreneurs displaying handmade soaps, knitted products, accessories, heritage crafts, scented candles and household cleaning products.
Nader Sousaq, head of the Damascus and Damascus Countryside Workers’ Union, said the exhibition seeks to encourage women to market locally made products, develop professional skills and create new income-generating opportunities.
Speaking to SANA, Sousaq said the initiative also aims to strengthen women’s participation in local production and support household incomes through small-scale enterprises.
Sanaa Waked, head of the Working Women Committee, said many of the products on display are made from simple materials but reflect Syria’s cultural heritage and demonstrate the creativity and craftsmanship of Syrian women.
She said the union is working to expand marketing opportunities for handmade Syrian products, including through regional and international platforms, with the aim of supporting future exports.
Waked also announced a new initiative to support retired working women by helping them produce handicrafts that reflect the cultural identity of their local communities while providing a sustainable source of income.
Exhibitors presented a wide range of handmade products, including crochet items, recycled textile crafts, accessories and household products.
Participants said the exhibition provides an opportunity to introduce their products to a wider audience, exchange experience with other producers and explore new market opportunities.
Visitors praised the quality and diversity of the products on display and called for greater support for similar events to help expand marketing opportunities for locally made handicrafts.
The Women’s Creativity Exhibition is part of a series of initiatives organized by the Damascus and Damascus Countryside Workers’ Union to promote women’s economic empowerment, support home-based industries and preserve Syria’s traditional crafts.
