UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria: Armed groups in eastern Aleppo used civilians as human shield

Geneva, SANA – The UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria said that the armed groups in Aleppo eastern neighborhoods prevented civilians from leaving the city and used them as human shields.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commission referred to receiving reports about some opposition groups, including the terrorist Jabhat al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham, preventing civilians from leaving while other reports stated that gunmen associated with Aleppo inhabitants which increase the risk of casualties among civilians.

The Commission also noted to receiving claims on “violations committed by the Syrian governmental forces” despite the fact that the Syrian army has secured the evacuation of tens of thousands of civilians from the terrorist-besieged eastern neighborhoods in Aleppo.

Last Friday, Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rupert Colville said that Jabhat al-Nusra and Abu Amara Battalions have executed civilians who attempted to escape from terrorist-controlled neighborhoods in eastern Aleppo.
