Lavrov: Russian and Syrian airstrikes against terrorists in Idleb and Homs are to prevent ISIS terrorists from crossing into Syria

Moscow, SANA – Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Our air force and the Syrian air force only work in the provinces of Idleb and Homs in order to prevent the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorists retreating from Iraq’s Mosul from crossing into Syria.

Lavrov made his remarks after a meeting the US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru’s Lima.
The two sides discussed the crises in Syria and Ukraine among other issues, according to the RT TV channel.

Lavrov said that the meetings of military experts, Mideast consultants and other parties concerned in the Syrian crisis continue in Geneva, adding that the main obstacle is the US’s failure to live up to its obligations regarding the separation of what it calls the “moderate” opposition from the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization.

He noted that there is concrete evidence that they want to maintain Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization as the most organized group in order to exploit it against the Syrian state despite this organization is listed on the UN’s terrorism lists set up by Russia and the US.

For his part, Kerry described the meeting as “productive” and “constructive”, adding that talks touched upon the developments in Yemen, Libya and Ukraine as well as the bilateral relations between Russia and the US.
