Lattakia, SANA – A plane loaded with 45 tons of aid and relief materials, presented by the Belarusian people and leadership on Saturday arrived at Hmeimim Airport in Lattakia.
The relief supplies, which include sugar, rice, food cans and other children’s materials, aimed at enhancing the steadfastness of the Syrian people to endure the unjust economic siege and terrorist war waged on their country.
Lattakia Governor, Ibrahim Khudr al-Salem highly appreciated the stances of Belarus which support Syria against the takfiri terrorism and in order to cope with the humanitarian impact of the unilateral economic sanctions imposed by the West and some regional states on it.
He stressed the strong Syrian-Belarusian ties on economic and political levels, noting that the aid will be distributed on displaced families who fled their towns and homes because of terrorists’ brutal crimes.
In turn, Belarusian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Ponomarev underlined the importance of this shipment as it is meant to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and provide their requirements of milk, foodstuff, medicine and other winter needs.
He stressed Belarus’ principled support to Syria since the very beginning of the crisis, noting that the Belarusian Embassy has not closed its doors in Damascus and has always sought to boost bilateral cooperation prospects in all domains.
Ponomarev hoped that Syria will restore security and stability soon and launch the reconstruction process in industry, economy, agriculture and other sectors, stressing the importance of implementing joint projects agreed upon between the two countries in 2010 such as assembling trucks and buses and studying the possibility of forming a Syrian businessmen delegation from Lattakia to visit Belarus to discuss means of supplying Belarusian market with Syrian products, vegetables and fruits, increase trade exchange and introduce Syrian tradesmen to Belarusian market.
On April 8th 2015, a Belarusian plane loaded with 40 tons of aid and food supplies arrived in Damascus International Airport.
