Borodavkin: Terrorists impede arrival of humanitarian aid to the eastern areas of Aleppo

Moscow, SANA- Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Alexey Borodavkin affirmed on Thursday that terrorists are impeding the arrival of humanitarian aid to the eastern areas of Aleppo, adding that there are no obstacles by the Syrian government for delivering this aid.

Borodavkin said that Russia agreed with the US to exert all possible efforts to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to the east of Aleppo, adding that the aid convoys will be sent in the near future.

He pointed out to the guarantees that should be presented by the armed groups to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and the safety of the UN personnel who will accompany the convoys, adding that such assurances are not available and on the contrary, the armed groups say that they will open fire on whoever will accompany the humanitarian convoys.

Borodavkin added that Russia and Syrian government will cooperate with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to ensure delivering the aid to the eastern part of Aleppo city, hoping that the SARC will accompany the aid convoys and work on distributing them.

He noted that preparation and work are underway to deploy UN observers to monitor the work and process of delivering the humanitarian aid along al-Castelo road in Aleppo but that requires some time, adding that there is an understanding that controlling and securing the road should be conducted by the SARC and the Syrian army forces.

In a relevant context, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that specialists in Russian forces operating in Syria staged an online-broadcast to the situation in Aleppo to provide transparent monitoring of the cessation of hostilities in Syria.

“In order to ensure the transparency of the truce regime’s implementation by the parties on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Russian Defense Ministry website launched on September 15, 2016, an online broadcast of the situation in Aleppo with surveillance cameras,” he said, adding that the on-line telecasting is already in progress from two cameras on the ground.

“Also for the first time an open online real-time broadcast of the situation in the eastern districts of Aleppo filmed by a UAV has been arranged,” Konashenkov added.
He noted that the number of locations to provide online monitoring of the situation in Syria will be increased in the future.
