China welcomes humanitarian operation in Aleppo

Beijing, SANA – China welcomed the humanitarian operation carried out by the Syrian government and the Russian forces in the city of Aleppo.

“China welcomes the Russian humanitarian mission in Aleppo that is being carried out in accordance with a UN mandate,” Sputnik quoted the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying as saying in a statement.

“We are supporting all the measures taken by the international community to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Syria,” the statement added.

The Chinese official called on all parties to continue to adhere to the principle of political settlement of the crisis, to facilitate the implementation of the ceasefire, to fight terrorism, conduct humanitarian assistance and to play a constructive role for an early solution of the Syrian issue.

For his part, UN Secretary General spokesperson Farhan Haq stressed in a statement to reporters the importance of the humanitarian operation in Aleppo and the opening of safe corridors to evacuate besieged civilians.

Last week, the Syrian government, in cooperation with the Russian forces, launched a large-scale humanitarian operation in Aleppo city to ensure safety for the locals in the city’s eastern neighborhoods where military operations are taking place.

Aleppo Governorate opened three corridors for civilians to get out of the eastern neighborhoods and prepared fully -equipped makeshift centers to accommodate the displaced people.

Other routes were also opened for gunmen wishing to lay down arms.
