Minister of Water Resources discusses with ICRC prospects of supporting water sector in Syria

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Water Resources Dr.Kamal al-Sheikha discussed with the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer prospects of expanding cooperation to provide more support to drinking water sector in Syria which was affected by the attacks perpetrated by the terrorist organizations and targeted water sources and facilities.

Al-Sheikha hailed the constructive role of ICRC to secure safe and clean drinking water and the speedy respond to the ministry’s requests in this regard.

For his part, Maurer expressed appreciation of the Syrian government’s efforts to support the drinking water sector, asserting the committee’s readiness to broaden the prospects of cooperation and to increase the amounts of aid granted to address the growing needs of citizens in light of the current conditions prevailing in Syria.

He called for protecting the water sources and facilities and keeping them away from  destruction.
