Updated- Self-protection squads in Damascus, Homs and Lattakia finish training

Damascus, SANA- Hundreds of men and youths from Damascus and Homs provinces finished training on how to protect their cities, villages and towns from terrorists, in a move to back up the Syrian army and armed forces in fighting terrorism, and to protect the areas decontaminated from terrorists.

In Damascus, the second batch of self-protection squads, consisting of hundreds of men and youths from Damascus, finished their training and were given a graduation ceremony on Friday.

The graduating squad members carried out drills displaying some of the combat skills they acquired during their training which they will put to use as they assist the Syrian Arab Army in protecting Damascus from terrorists.

A military commander in charge of the training program said the concept of the self-protection squads resonated strongly with many civilians who rushed to join them to help protect their country from terrorism, noting that these squads will operate in the areas over which the Syrian Arab Army recovers control, and are currently capable of carrying out subtasks like manning checkpoints.

In Homs, some 500 men and youths from Homs province, also, completed their training where Governor Talal al-Barazi said that the idea of forming self-protection squads was widely welcomed among the locals of the province and its countryside.

Al-Barazi added that Homs locals, who bravely face terrorists, insist on keeping and preserving the national fabric of the society as well as on fighting Takfiri terrorism in their areas in a support to the Syrian armed forces.

In the coastal city of Lattakia, the second batch of hundreds of men and youths, also finished training and performed drills displaying some of the combat skills they acquired during their training.

Lattakia Governor Ibrahim Kheder Salem said the graduates will form a supporting force for the army and armed forces units in the province in .

Last Week, the first batches of self-protection squads completed training and graduated in Damascus.
