500 families of working class martyrs honored in Damascus

Damascus, SANA – The General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) honored on Thursday 500 families of workers who were killed due to terrorist acts, during a Ramadan Iftar (break-fasting) banquet held at Sahara hotel in Damascus.

The families of the martyrs took great pride in their relatives, expressing their belief that “their blood will line the way of victory for the future generations, who will make Syria better than it was before.”

“I am going to bring up my children on loving the homeland and being its staunch supporters,” Reem al-Saleh, a martyr’s wife said in a statement to SANA.

Mazen Abu Hilal, a martyr’s son also said “I am proud of my father’s martyrdom, and I will continue my study to learn and serve my country.”

Taymaa Hamada, a daughter of a martyr from the Union of the Chemical Industries Workers in Damascus delivered a speech in the name of the martyrs’ families in which she said “every Syrian citizen is like a solider fighting in his/her position,” affirming that the martyrs will remain “crowns on our heads.”

“We, Syria’s children, pledge that we will not give up or yield to anyone, and will go all the way until attaining victory,” Hamada added.

GFTU chairman Jamal al-Qaderi also delivered a speech at the honoring ceremony in which he said “We are honored by all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland’s sake.”

Premier Wael al-Halaqi, for his part, said in a statement on the sidelines of the banquet that the martyrs of the working class were “the first among those who took up arms alongside the army,” hailing their great role in enhancing the steadfastness of the country through building the national economy.
