Damascus, SANA-Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad affirmed that the purpose of the war launched by terrorists and their supporters on Syria is to target its freedom and sovereignty.
“The Syrian people, their brothers and friends are celebrating nowadays the 69th anniversary of Independence day which was achieved by the Syrians and led by heroes who have confronted the French occupation with belief and dignity,” Mikdad said in an article published by Lebanese al-Binaa newspaper on Saturday.
He pointed out to the background of greed, which didn’t retreat, particularly by France and Britain to stabilize their occupation existence in the region, a thing crystallized through a policy which has never been changed since the 19th century, mainly to interfere in the region domestic affairs.
“While Syria has been confronting terrorism to preserve its independence and sovereignty, It was obvious that the occupation is still occupation and its old face doesn’t differ from its new one as France intentions didn’t change since the coming of Gouraud in 1920 to the region,” Mikdad said.
He added that the real independence for any people won’t only be measured by the evacuation of the foreign forces, but it really means the freedom of political, economic and social decision, affirming that Syria has sought to apply these factors to keep its independence and sovereignty, particularly after 1970.
