Damascus, SANA-Regional Leadership of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party affirmed on Thursday that independence was an honorable stage in Syria’s history and a bridge towards advanced stages of national struggle.
In a statement on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the evacuation of French occupiers from Syria (Independence Day), the leadership said that independence constituted a strong base to support Arab peoples in the entire Arab region to break free from colonialism.
The leadership pointed out that independence was achieved thanks to the struggle and sacrifices of the Syrian people who refused to bow or surrender.
The anniversary this year comes as the Syrian army is cracking down on terrorist organizations in all Syrian provinces in defense of the homeland and the values of justice and freedom, and to ward off extremism and subversive ideas.
The leadership said that the Syrians who forced out invaders and Ottoman and French occupiers of and the French in the past are able under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad to rid Syria from terrorists and their Takfiri project.
