UN ocean Conference kicks off in France with calls to boost marine protections

Nice, SANA- The UN Ocean Conference in the French city, Nice, kicked off Monday with calls to ban bottom trawling and bolster protections for the world’s overexploited marine areas.

AFP reported that French President Emmanuel Macron, in his opening speech, called for concerted action, highlighting the significant rise in global temperatures and the signs of global warming.

French environment minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher told reporters Sunday that the summit will allow for “increased protection of international waters,” while other countries would make “important announcements” about the creation of new marine protected areas.
