WHO: 16 million Syrians in urgent need of health support

Geneva, SANA- The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has announced that approximately 16 million people in Syria urgently need health support, calling on donors to increase their assistance as people’s lives depend on it.

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Ghebreyesus stated, “Nearly 16 million people across Syria require urgent humanitarian health assistance,” highlighting the provision of mental health services for those severely affected by displacement, while emphasizing that the need remains far greater.

Ghebreyesus further explained that thanks to a $3 million contribution from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), WHO has been able to expand life-saving health services to reach over 500,000 people, providing essential medical care.
