Damascus, SANA – the season of Robotics Competitions for 2015 was launched on Saturday at Damascus University Auditorium with the aim of supporting the young generation and qualifying them in the field of Robotics.
This year’s ceremony, held in cooperation with Syriatel Company and the Syrian Computer Society (CSC), comes as a fruit of the Syrian Robot’s success in the National Championship of Robot Olympiad last year.
The event was kicked off with a recorded speech of the General Secretary of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Claus Christensen cited by a Syrian designed and programmed robot where he stressed the importance of spreading the robotic culture and science around the world, clarifying that topics related to robots are associated with the mentality of the young because they are combining entertainment with science.
More than 30 teams from different provinces participate in the competitions represented through teams from csc and Higher Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology.
Local competitions related to Robotics have already started until reaching the date of the National Robotics Olympiad Championship on August 27th and then a closed camp is to be held for training the winner, who is supposed to participate in the WRO scheduled in November.
In a statement to SANA, National Director of the WRO Muhib al-Neqqari said that the event constitutes a scientific social activity that aims at spreading the culture of robotics nationally in order to broaden it universally.
For his part, Head of the National Agency of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad Imad al-Azeb said that the event is a qualitative stride and additional merit to the young in Syria, pointing out to the importance of concerting the efforts of the public and private sectors for boosting Robotics in the country.
The register of participation in the National Robotics Olympiad starts today until the eighth of August via the WRO website.
The World Robot Olympiad is a global robotics competition for young people between the ages of 13 and 19, and it was held for the first time in 2004 in Singapore. The teams participating in its main event, the regular competition, must build a robot to tackle specific challenges and carry out tasks set by the event’s organizers.
