Homs, SANA,Governor of Homs, Talal Barazi, following a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Peter Drennan Wednesday, expressed Syria’s and the governorate’s welcome of any positive role for restoring Security and stablility to Syria.
Barazi told journalists that Drennan’s visit to the governorate, like other visits of UN envoys, is to see the huge damage that terrorism left in the city and to have an idea of what has been achieved in national reconciliations in restoring security and stability to some of its parts.
“The reconciliation and the solutions achieved in Homs are based on inter-Syrian dialogue and there is no direct participation from the UN in them, including al-Waer neighborhood”, the governor added, pointing indicating that great efforts are being exerted to achieve wider reconciliation, whether in al-Waer or in areas of to the north of HOMS (Talbieseh, al-Houle and al-Rastan).
Barazi hailed Syrian armies’ sacrifices in eliminating terrorists of Islamic State in Syria and Iraq ” ISIS” in northern countryside of the governorate, stressing that Homs was and is still being targeted by terrorists’ attacks weather in the eastern or northern countryside.
Earlier Wednesday, Dernnan met interior minister Maj. Gen. Mohamed al-Shaar who stressed Syria’s determination to cooperate with the UN in combating terrorism.
Barazi pointed out Syrian government and Homs governorate cooperation with the UN in implementing relief and services program to all areas including “hotspots”, saying .. The UN program of delivering relief and assistance aid is being executed according to the program in cooperation with Foreign and Expatriates ministry and the Higher relief committee.
For his part, Drennan pointed out that his visit aims at looking at what the UN Organizations are practically doing and to see what the UN can support Syria to deliver humanitarian aid to people in need, stressing that the UN is focusing on distributing humanitarian aid including health, food, teaching and reconstruction issues.
