Damascus, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem criticized Turkey’s harmful position towards Syria that runs counter to the interests of the Syrian and Turkish peoples.
During his meeting Monday with a Turkish delegation comprising political, economic and party figures headed by Secretary-General of the Land Party (VP) Dogu Perincek, Minister al-Moallem stressed the deeply-rooted relations between the Syrian and Turkish peoples.
But, the minister said, the Turkish government has misread the political situation in the region, leading it to adopt stances that harmed the interests of the Syrian and Turkish peoples.
He called upon the delegation to uphold the profound ties and interests shared by the two peoples in a way that contributes to bringing peace and security to the region and the world, warning of the danger of the takfiri terrorism that is threatening the stability and future of the region.
Head of the Turkish delegation, for his part, stressed the solidarity of the Turkish people with the Syrians in confronting terrorism, clarifying that Erdogan’s wrong policies emboldened terrorists who have ignited the region at the bidding of the US and Israel.
Mufti Hassoun meets Turkish delegation
Syria’s Grand Mufti Dr. Ahmad Badr Eddin Hassoun affirmed that Syria, by confronting the spread of Wahhabi extremism, is defending the entire region.
Speaking to the Turkish delegation currently visiting Syria, Hassoun pointed out that Syrian people do not hold the Turkish people responsible for the policies of their government which supports terrorists and helps US, Israel and western countries in the war against their country.
Syria is moving ahead with its fight against terrorism and will win thanks to the steadfastness of its Army and the unity of its people to undermine political Islam project in region, he said.
“Our hearts in Turkey are burning by the fire they ignited in Syria…This fire will devour us unless it is stopped,” head of the delegation Dogu Perincek said.
He added that efforts should be exerted to abort the Greater Middle East project that was concocted by the US, considering that “Syria’s victory will save the Turkish people and the entire world a lot of tragedies and woes.”
