University student designs bionic hand for amputees and those with paralyzed hand

Hama, SANA – The Medical Engineering student at Tishreen University, Ali al-Hassoun al-Bakir, designed a bionic hand for people with amputated hands or those who had paralyzed hands or fingers.

SANA correspondent visited the student’s home in al-Rabi’ah village in the countryside of Hama and interviewed him to talk more about this invention.

Al-Bakir noted that the work mechanism of the new device is mainly based on using a muscle sensor that is placed on the arm or the biceps connected to another piece on the wrist, adding that the sensor controls the fingers movements and gives orders once the patient wants to hold something and allows him grip objects.

The device is water-resistant and its flexible design enables patients to pick up a spoon or a pencil.
