Youth initiatives to develop local community in Homs

Homs, SANA – Supporting people with sight loss and protecting environment are two of several initiatives provided by the youths of Homs among a society-oriented project targeting neighborhoods and areas of Homs city.

60 young men and women will present initiatives addressing certain problems facing their local community, where 15 initiatives will be adopted by “Flashes of Youth” project to be implemented in the city.

The project, organized by the Syriac Orthodox Mar Afram Church in Homs, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), started activities by holding a training course for the participating youths, at the end of which a number of initiatives that meet the needs of the local society in Homs will be selected.

Speaking about their participation, Dima al-Khalil and Hisham Qarba said that their initiative aims at supporting blind people with a number of services and development projects that seek to integrate them into the society and develop their capabilities and potentials.

Ala’ Sulaiman, another participant, said that her environment-oriented initiative aims at creating green spaces and clean-up campaigns in the Old City of Homs. While the initiative of Ola Jrouj focused on supporting persons injured in the course of the ongoing war waged against the country.
