Al-Moallem discusses means of enhancing cooperation with UNDP Regional Director

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, on Thursday received Mourad Wahba, Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the accompanying delegation.

The two sides discussed means of boosting the standing cooperation between the Syrian government and UNDP in a way that enhances the developmental programs carried out by the Government, which aim at covering the basic humanitarian needs of the Syrian citizens.

Minister al-Moallem reviewed the efforts exerted by the Syrian Government in terms of implementing the developmental programs despite of all the obstacles it faces, on top of which, the continuous presence of the unjust unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria and the politicization exercised by many of the granting parties of the humanitarian and developmental files, in addition to the crimes and atrocities committed by the armed terrorist groups, supported by well-known regional and international states.

Al-Moallem stressed the importance of boosting cooperation between the Syrian Government and the UNDP during the upcoming stage, particularly in the field of reconstruction.
For his part, the UNDP Regional Director expressed appreciation for the efforts exerted by the Syrian Government aiming at covering the basic needs of the Syrian people despite of the difficulties and over its cooperation with the UNDP.

He clarified that the UNDP seeks to increase the projects it funds in cooperation with the Syrian Government in the humanitarian and developmental fields away from politicization and selectivity.

Wahba expressed the UNDP’s readiness to bolster cooperation with the Syrian Government as to enhance its ability of facing the increasing living pressures, stressing the importance of boosting coordination and partnership between the two sides.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad and other senior diplomats at the Ministry.

In the same context, Mikdad met with Wahba and the accompanying delegation where he reviewed the exerted efforts in the humanitarian field, highlighting the need for boosting the developmental action during the upcoming stage with the continuation of the relief action and the distribution of humanitarian aid.
