Reception ceremony to celebrate 53rd anniversary of establishing Syrian-Cuban relations and Castro’s birthday

Damascus, SANA – The Cuban Embassy in Damascus held a reception ceremony on the 91st birthday anniversary of the late leader Fidel Castro and the 53rd anniversary of establishing Syrian-Cuban relations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Damascus Rogerio Manuel Santana Rodriguez highlighted the close and strong relations between Syria and Cuba, based on mutual respect and fraternity since the days of the great late leaders Hafez al-Assad and Fidel Castro.

He added that Cuba will never forget Syria’s political and diplomatic support to the Cuban people in their struggle against blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than 50 years.

The Cuban ambassador called on enemies of Syria to end their terrorist criminal war on the country whose repercussions resulted in unparalleled human suffering for all Syrians, highlighting the achievements made by the Syrian army to eliminate the foreign-backed terrorist organizations.

In a statement to journalists, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad noted that the Syrian-Cuban relations witness rapid and continuous development despite all challenges, pointing out that Cuba has always assumed its responsibilities within the framework of international law, stood by developing countries and supported liberation movements.

He reiterated Syria’s support to the Cuban people and leadership and the two countries’ efforts to further enhance cooperation relations in a way that serves the interests of their peoples, expressing gratitude to Cuba for its contributions and support to Syria in the current crisis.
